La Alhambra, Granada, Spain
When you've already travelled to a city in Spain, going back is the time to rediscover the hidden secrets that you missed the first time. As is true with any travel, you are trying to take photos of this and that and then that over there, so you tend to miss the relaxing digestion of a place as a whole.

For part of Semana Santa this year, I returned to Granada, Spain. The city enchanted me last year, but this year allowed me to take it in as more than a snapshot album and appreciate it even more. Besides the touristic sites, there are a few things that are a must in Granada.

1. Listen to the water

Being a popular place for its Islamic historical heritage, Granada hosts an abundance of fountains. They vary in size and style, but the sound of running water is an overlooked tranquilizer to the city. Take a moment to sit by the river sites and read a book, sit by a fountain and gaze at nothing, or watch the water flow downhill by the ancient aqueduct.

2. Look for the details

As it has been home to multiple cultures throughout its long history, Granada has the advantage of detail. Every sculpture and surface holds a different ornamentation. Put your camera aside after you've gotten the postcard picture and look closely at everything to discover the intricacy of its design.

3. Stay in one place

Sometimes when we go on vacation, it seems like we shouldn't stay in one place too long. In Granada, you can find a lot of great locations to have some wine and tapas. While having said wine and tapas, mingle with the locals. If you sit in one place long enough, you will surely hear authentic music, learn about the city's culture, or learn more about yourself and those around you.

You might be thinking, "OK, but these are really simple things to do" and you're right, but after having travelled so much within the last few years, sometimes you lose sight of how to be a traveller and really inhale a new destination without running around for the picture for your photo album.
